Obama '08

Barack Obama, my favorite senator, announced that he's starting a presidential exploratory committee, the first step toward a bid for the White House. I have mixed feelings about this. I love, love, love Senator Obama. Love him. How can you not love that skinny kid with a funny name? I actually felt a swell of pride when I cast my vote for Obama back in '04 -- it might have been the first time I didn't feel as if I were merely choosing the lesser of two evils.

I think Senator Obama brings a fresh new perspective to politics, which our political landscape needs in a bad way. I can't even begin to tell you how much I prefer him to Hillary Clinton, who's generally considered the front runner for the democratic nomination.

Is it too soon? Is Senator Obama too much of a newcomer to really make a creditable run for the presidency? Or is his status as newcomer, outsider, fresh voice exactly what we need now? I don't know. I just don't know. But if Senator Obama needs volunteers in Chicago (like there's going to be a shortage!), he should feel free to give me a call. (But not after 8:00 pm.)

Can I call you right now and discuss this further? LOL ;)

Obama? What has he done to impress so many people? Maybe I should refrain from commenting until I have read his two best selling books or heard his oppinions on a number of issues beside Irag. Honestly, for this Independent voter I will have to hear a lot more from the Junior Senator of Illinois before I cconsider him as a valid candidate. That may be hard for him with the Senior Senator of his state hogging all the available media attention. You see, right from within your own loving family you have a lot of "selling" to do! I'm open, I'm waiting and will expect many blogs on this subject over the next two years.

Hey, Grandpa Paul, I think you've hit on what could be Senator Obama's biggest obstacle in this race. What has he done in the last two years? That isn't much time for a junior senator to accomplish all that much. Of course, we all know that much of the Obama buzz is due to his charisma, which is essential in a successful candidate but which doesn't qualify someone for office. I'm a big fan of Senator Obama because I share many of his values. He supports issues such as Congressional ethics reform, accessible financial aid for college students, and access to health care for all Americans, to name just a few of the positions we share. However, can he be an effective president? Is he qualified? Is he the best candidate for the job? Time will tell. As I've said, he'll have my support.

I'm excited about the possibility of him being in the race. I think he'll prove himself worthy.

He has as much experance as A. Lincoln. Like the idea he has lived in different cultures and has different values from the present monarchy. King George reminds me of too many Texas men in power they will go out of they way to keep their ideas and diagnosis even when people who have much experience and success in the subject have better ideas
