I usually try to steer clear of the controversial topics politics and religion on this blog -- I know we don't all agree, and I want Digressions to be a place where we can all have pleasant conversations in moderate tones of voice. I'm going to break that rule today because I want to mention that this blog endorses Rich Whitney for Illinois governor. He cares about adequate funding for our schools, balancing the budget, providing universal health care, and getting the corruption out of Illinois politics. And perhaps most important, he's a Battlestar Galactica fan. I am dismayed by Mr. Whitney's support of open-carry gun laws, and I wish he'd rethink that. However, I still think he's the best of our three choices.
If you live in Illinois and aren't yet sure who you're voting for on Tuesday (or even if you are), check out Mr. Whitney's site.

Well, there are certainly no good candidates in this year's gubenatorial election. Mr. Whitney, while I agree with him on most of his positions, his gun control stance is an unfortunate one. Whitney supports open-carry gun laws (moving even beyond concealed-carry laws).
It is not often that I find myself at odds with this beloved blogger, but I must vote for the, no doubt, crooked Blago because, despite of Mr. Whitney's assurances that open-carry will make us safer, if Topinka wins I may just shoot myself.

I do agree with you, Jo, concerning Mr. Whitney's gun stance. I find it to be very distressing. But I'm so fed up with Blago -- he has to go. And Judy is not the answer. So I'm with the Battlestar Galactica fan!
Of course, I think Blago is going to win regardless. A vote for Whitney is a protest vote at best.
I've updated the post to include mention of Mr. Whitney's unfortunate opinions about gun laws. Thanks for bringing it up, Jo!
Our incumbent congressional rep, John Salazar, is a Democrat AND he's been endorsed by the NRA!
I was already mad at him for voting for corrupting the Geneva Conventions.
But I'm not going to vote for a Republican. We're in bad need of oversite in this country, and if all the Dems and the GOP do is fight with each other, at least they won't have time to take as many bribes as they're taking now.
I am going to vote for Rich Whitey and Da Man.
Rich Whitney supports an exception to open carry for Chicago and Cook County.
