The answer appears to be "No."I invited my good friend Kerri to join me (and the twins) for lunch at Hot Doug's today. Kerri is pregnant and four days past her due date -- that little rug rat is starting to overstay his/her welcome in poor Kerri's womb. So our expedition had two purposes: 1) Kerri won't be getting out much in the near future, so this might be her last chance to visit Doug's for a while. 2) Surely a hot dog and some cheese fries can encourage the little bugger to join us on the outside, no?
Apparently not. So far, Kerri is still pregnant. I was hoping she'd dramatically go into labor in the middle of Hot Doug's, but I'm fairly certain Doug was hoping for the reverse and counteracted my hopes with his. Curses!
Kerri has a bit of a history with Hot Doug's. Kerri and her husband Martin's co-ed bridal shower was held at Hot Doug's, and during the festivities, the building caught fire and subsequently burned down. Hot Doug's in now in lovely new digs a few blocks away. I still can't believe Doug hasn't named a fire dog after Kerri and Martin. (Hey, Doug -- what more do you have to do to get a menu item named after you? Give birth in your establishment, perhaps? Because we can arrange that.)If Kerri does go into labor within the next 24 hours, I'm going to claim credit.
(I apologize for the low quality of the pictures -- I forgot to bring my digital camera and was forced to resort to using my camera phone.)

Actually, my cousin Janet was born on the 4th of July after Grandma Jean fed her mother, Auntie Viola, a caster oil cocktail. I'll bet Doug would not like it if his hot dogs had the same effect as castor oil.
Yeah, I've heard that castor oil does the job, but there's debate about whether it's really worth it. I don't think so. Just give that baby a few more days, Kerri! S/he can't stay in there forever!
I wrote about all the stuff we tried with Aunt Lulu, but in the end, it's just fun to try all that to kill time while you're waiting.
Can you send me a hot dog and cheese fries...please?
Are there any storms on the horizon? They say when the barometric pressure shifts, it can induce labor.
Good luck Kerri!
You come to Chicago, Nanette, and we'll go to Doug's. He serves the best hot dogs on Earth. And on Fridays and Saturdays, he makes duck-fat fries -- you can feel your arteries harden as you eat them.
Hot Doug is still looking smashing, in his bored/annoyed sort of way!
Ruggless wants to know why his shirt isn't as big as Hot Doug's.
Kerri--I feel your pain. I was a week overdue with twins. We went to the mall to walk around to see if we could get contractions going. People gasped in sheer terror when we passed them. They thought nothing of calling out, "OH MY GOD!! You poor thing!!" Needless to say, we didn't stay long.
Hang some Christmas lights. That did it for me!
Sorry, Kel -- closing in on 24 hours, and I'm still ready to burst with nowhere to go. I'm wondering if it's because I just need another dose of Doug's? Perhaps the medicinal value of cheese fries doesn't kick in until doubled....
Trying to stay patient. Doing a better job. Nights are the worst because I go to bed thinking, "Well, I might wake up in a few hours and go to the hospital." I do always wake up -- but to pee.
Going for our baby tests in an hour. I'll let you know the results! If you don't see a post by tomorrow, assume I've been induced and wish me luck!
The baby's non-stress test and amniotic fluid check looked good, so I am still currently with child. Oh, well -- the Doug's was delicious no matter what (much more delish than castor oil, I'm sure).
