Sometimes a wand is just a wand.

According to J.K. Rowling, Albus Dumbledore is gay. Admit it: You've wondered. The flowing robes, the attention to personal appearance, the lilting way he sashays through Hogwarts -- all the signs were there.

Kidding aside, I have to say this seems perfectly consistent with the books, and I love that Rowling has now outed Dumbledore, although I'm also glad that it didn't come up in the books. The Harry Potter books are all about tolerance and acceptance, so Dumbledore's orientation should rightly be of no consequence. Well done, J.K.

Now all those Harry Potter haters will have a whole new round of ammunition.

Hm. It certainly doesn't bother me that he would be, but it seems a little strange for her to mention it. Is she egging on the fan-fiction writers? Planning on doing a spinoff series for... adults? Does it matter?

I don't care who Dumbledor had sex with. (I wonder if Richard Harris knew about this wihen agreed to play the part?)
It make's sense that only infatuation would blind a young man to the faults of an evil person, and it's more believable in that time period that a powerful evil person would be male.
Strictly from a literary standpoint, Dumbledor's orientation makes perfect sense.
I'll be glad, however, when powerful evil women are believable.

It seems to me that J.K. is being a bit irresponsible. It doesn't/shouldn't matter what his sexual orientation is, since these are supposed to be young reader's books and contain no sex anyway. It seems like she is just trying to "stir the pot" by making an off-hand comment in order to get more press coverage. On the other hand I can see where she is trying to do her part to support 15% of our population by breaking barriers. I suppose if she is going to kill off major characters in order to help children deal with grief she can also help children with other areas.
