As a non-believer, I find these ads (parodies of the Mac vs. PC ads) to be very interesting. I think I approve of their message, if I understand it correctly. Worry more about doing/being good than looking/seeming good -- I can get on board with that. (Not so much the following Jesus part, but you know me.)

Again it's a question of labels. I'm a Christian and, I try to be, a Christ follower. The two aren't mutually exclusive despite the bad reputation so many neocons have given the name.
You can't see faith and values on someone's bumpter sticker or on his/her party affiliation, but don't let those idiots usurp Christianity. The guys in the sheets with the nooses think they're Christian, and the suicide bombers think they're devout Muslims.
God is shaking his/her head and thinking, "How did our message get so perverted."
Don't be part of the problem. Don't associate religion with intolerance and bigotry no matter how many idiots will try to justify their flaws by thumping you over the head with a Bible. You're smarter than that.
The last time I checked the bible(s) [yes, plural] are all human-written about "One God".
Common sense has to kick in sooner or later. Personally, I'm big on fiction.
This is not blasphemy.
Um...I watched them. Is it bad that when I attend church, I always hope there is a video just so I get even more of a distraction than I already have (ooo...shiny things!). I ride a fence on the God thing. I want to believe there is smoething greater than all of us, and I live my life in a reasonably upstanding way, a moral code, but am I really the type of person God would want hanging out with him?
BTW...I skipped thru most of these and enjoyed EveHarmony...
I had to wait until I put the kids to bed so I could watch in peace---
I took them exactly as you have....all about appearances. My neighborhood is filled with the guys in the suits and very few of the casuals kwim? Thanks for the chuckle!
Oh and Sonya--you are very patient to watch a video on dial-up--send me some of your patience please :)
I thought they came across as a bit smug but the overall message is good. The truth is most people who are represented by the guy in the suit see themselves as the guy in the jeans and would think "I hope those legalistic jerks are watching this" They are pretty clever though.
these videos are interesting. i agree that they are well-made and do a great job of parodying the mac commercials.
what is difficult for me is the idea it presents that one who calls him- or herself a christ-follower would make one who calls him- or herself a christian feel badly about the way s/he chooses to worship christ. and i'm not convinced you can be a christ-follower and not be a christian--you can be christ-LIKE and not be a christian, but that's different.
i don't have nearly as much bible knowledge as a lot of people with whom i go to church, and i don't have any christian bumper stickers or christian t-shirts, and i listen to very little overtly christian music, but that doesn't mean i'm not a christian. it doesn't even mean i'm not a good christian. it just means that i choose to live out my christianity differently from others.
frankly, i think some of the differences between the two are generational. "christian" reminds me of people i know from my parents' era, whereas "christ follower" reminds me more of the college kids i see at my church on a weekly basis.
again, interesting. thanks for posting the link.
