I've been trying to break the habit, or at least get it under control, for some time. But lately, I've been off the wagon in a big way, chugging glass after glass of Dr Pepper or Cherry Coke all day long. At last, I think I've managed to convince myself that it's time to stop, with a little help from this article:
Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Dr Pepper and other dark-colored soft drinks contain phosphoric acid, which has been linked to brittle bones and osteoporosis. Phosphoric acid leeches the calcium from bones.I knew that already, of course. We all know that. But the recent revelation that as few as four sodas a week can cause serious damage was eye-opening, to say the least. It's not uncommon for me to consume four a day, let alone four a week.
So it's time to stop. Who's with me?

Wow, there are days I know I probably drink an equivalent of Diet Mountain Dew that is way more than four servings. Then I can go on the wagon. It all depends on if we have it in the house or not.
For this fact and others, I know I should taper off. Good intentions...
I don't drink it in the first place, but I whole-heartedly support your resolution.
We don't need our bones to be any more brittle than they already are.
The Ca++ from the bones goes into funny places....like the tubes from the kidneys to the bladder causesing all kinds of pain i.e. kidney stones and bladder stone. Also there is the problem of your body having too high a serum ca++

I will cut back! I can't quit totally--I am weak I tell you.
You can do it, Kel! I never thought I'd be able to give up Diet Coke when I was drinking six cans a day, but it's been years now since I've had one, and I hardly even miss it. I use seltzer water or sparkling water as a substitute, and that helped a lot with the transition. Good luck!
