I deplore what Davis said, but we have to remember that where she lives, the church has been a positive force in her community. For African-Americans, the church organized the Civil Rights movement. Look at all the flap Obama is getting over what Jerimiah Wright said. But Wright only spoke the truth, and people like him have been on the front lines for civil rights and community activism. On the other hand, the church condoned slavery and segragation, and I think Davis forgets this. She looks at atheism and sees anarchy. I hope she will think things through and see that atheism is as logical and valid as her own beliefs, and that atheists are no better and no worse than anyone else. I agree with Eric Zorn. If Davis had been speaking out against any other belief system there would have been a huge outcry, just like the one against Pastor Wright. We as a people have a long way to go.

I think that you have to remember that we've been indoctrinated from childhood in a belief in santa-God. Doesn't have to make much sense.
